To Make An Apple Pie From Scratch You Must First
Gather Your Ingredients
Making an apple pie from scratch requires a few key ingredients. You'll need flour, butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and of course, apples. Choose firm apples that are good for baking, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Rome apples. It's also a good idea to have a lemon on hand to prevent the apples from browning.
Prepare the Crust
Start by making the crust. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Cut in 1 cup of cold butter until the mixture is crumbly. Remove the second dough disk from the refrigerator and roll it out into a circle that's about 12 inches in diameter. Cut the dough into strips and use them to create a lattice pattern on top of the pie.
Bake the Pie
